A tag is a descriptive phrase or a creative tagline describing your site. Once you have added your tag, it gets added to the Tag Cloud. This is where all the fun begins

TagMaps is a toolkit to visualize text (well, tags) geographically on a map. Check out the sample applications, where we use Flickr tags on a map to build a world exploration tool.

TagMaps is available as a Flash component for your own website. The tags input to the visualization can be drawn from your own application - or use the data API of one of our sample applications.

Stock Cloud is a tag cloud like display of stock ticker symbols. The larger the ticker symbol the more frequent that company distributes press releases.

Stock Cloud began as data mining experiment with a very simple goal — "Could they extract Business Partnerships by tracking press releases?" To accomplish this they selected a press release distribution agency, MarketWire, and began tracking releases. Using in-house developed code they parsed press releases and extracted any relevant stock symbol information. It's this extracted data that is the basis of Stock Cloud.

TagCrowd is a web application for visualizing word frequencies in any user-supplied text by creating what is popularly known as a tag cloud.

Today, tag clouds are primarily used for navigation and visualization on websites that employ user-generated metadata (tags) as a categorization scheme. (Flickr is a good example.)

TagCrowd is trying to do something different.

When we look at a tag cloud, we see not only a richly informative, beautiful image that communicates much in a single glance. We see a whole new approach to text.

Potential uses for tag clouds extend far outside the online realm: as topic summaries for written works, as name tags for conferences, as resumes in a single glance, as analyses for survey data, as visual poetry; the list goes on.

In the future, TagCrowd will develop into a suite of experimental tools and tutorials that empower social and collaborative uses for tag clouds and related visualizations.
