timeXchange.net : an on-line timesheet exchange for individuals and teams

timeXchange.net" is a member-based, on-line timesheet exchange for individuals and teams who are required to submit, route, approve and collect project time-tracking details. timeXchange.net is focused on improving business performance by providing a single application that can serve multiple organizational affiliations and back-office applications simultaneously.

Their approach of providing a "generic" or "one-to-many" timesheet application uniquely resolves two business inefficiencies - redundant time entry and re-keying of data. After all, it is not uncommon today to find project teams that consist of workers from both inside (employees) and outside (contractors) the organization.

It is also not uncommon to have various functions within an organization that require the same data be reported (HR, accounting, project management). The old answer was a timesheet application for each organization or departmental application. The new answer is timeXchange.net.

A database that tracks listening habits and does wonderful things with statistics.

The Audioscrobbler system is a massive database that tracks listening habits and calculates relationships and recommendations based on the music people listen to.

After installing an Audioscrobbler plugin for your media player (eg iTunes, Winamp, Amarok) the name of every song you listen to is sent to the Audioscrobbler server and added to your music profile. The Audioscrobbler system powers our main site, Last.fm, as well as exposing data via webservices so other projects can make interesting things from the data and recommendations we provide.

Audioscrobbler was initially released by Richard Jones in 2002, with support for Winamp and XMMS. The protocol was publicly documented and support has been added to dozens of different media players and devices since then. To name a few: iTunes, Winamp, Windows Media Player, Foobar, iPod, Amarok, Rhythmbox, mpd, Xbox media center, Slimserver, Jinzora, mpg321, Muine, Rhapsody, YME, Soundbridge, VLC... and loads of other scripts and tools exist to scrobble and fetch data from our webservices.

neighborrow.com identifies and tracks individually owned items and pools them into a collection

neighborrow.com identifies and tracks individually owned items and automatically pools them into one giant collection for a group of people living in a concentrated area. Once an item is added to the system, it is visible to every member of the group immediately. Each neighborrowhood is transformed into a perpetually growing, completely transparent, collectively owned, FREE library that is open (theoretically) 24 hours a day. Using an apartment building as an example, the building is the library and the library is the building. What could be more convenient than that? In addition to apartment buildings, neighborrow works any place on earth where there are people and things (and the Internet)! All you need to do is list and lend; then borrow, trade and share anything in the library.

All you need to participate is:

1.
Internet connection
2.
Doorman
A doorman, or a similar "third party enabler" that can serve as a trusted vehicle through which the transaction can be completed (this not required for private groups and public members who are willing to trade directly with each other in person or through trackable mail).
3.
Some items that you are willing to lend to others in your neighborrowhood
Simply set up an account with some basic personal information and neighborrow.com takes the simplistic and traditional act of borrowing from your neighbor, and applies it to the information age.

Plazes announcing its f raised €2.7 million, or about

Plazes, which is based in Zurich and Berlin, is announcing its first institutional round of financing this morning. They raised €2.7 million, or about $3.5 million, from Doughty Hanson Technology Ventures.

We first profiled Plazes on June 11, 2005 (the day this blog started). It’s evolved significantly since then, obviously, but the core idea is the same - Plazes tracks your physical location and shows you other Plazes users and places nearby. Plazes also integrates with Skype, has a widget to place on websites that shows your current location and other information, and a SMS service to find out the current location of your Plazes friends.

I spoke with founder Felix Petersen earlier this evening. He says Plazes continues to see “strong growth” and has 40,000 active users currently. Those users are “predominantly users from the US (40%), followed by Germany, UK, Netherlands, Canada and Switzerland.” A thousand or so users are online at any given time.
